In advance of the November 5-10 China International Import Expo in Shanghai, the city’s Public Security Bureau (PSB) Foreign NGO Management Office, together with the Shanghai Municipal Culture, Radio Broadcasting, Film, and Television Administration, held an information session on the Foreign NGO Law for government departments and professional associations in the culture and broadcasting fields. The PSB explained the basics about the law and what services the PSB could provide in helping Chinese entities cooperate with foreign NGOs. The Culture, Radio Broadcasting, Film, and Television Administration Administration noted that foreign NGOs provide significant opportunities for international cooperation as well as platforms for China’s cultural and artistic enterprises to “go out and welcome in.”

October 12, 2018:

Recently, the Zhejiang PSB Foreign NGO Management office presented a representative office registration certificate to China Star Light Charity Fund Association (Hong Kong). PSB officials congratulated the foreign NGO, expressed their wish that it could strictly adhere to relevant laws and regulations, and maintain communications with the PSB. Representatives from the provincial Department of Civil Affairs, also in attendance, indicated they would earnestly offer guidance and management to the foreign NGO.

Recently, the chairman of Barry & Martin’s Trust (United Kingdom) visited the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region Sixth People’s Hospital to observe an ongoing cooperative program and to sign an additional cooperation agreement. The Xinjiang PSB Foreign NGO Management office also met with the Trust, affirming its active contributions to AIDS treatment and prevention in the region. The PSB also inquired about the Trust’s projects in Xinjiang and offered relevant guidance. The foreign NGO expressed gratitude for the PSB’s patient and painstaking guidance.

October 12, 2018:

Recently, the Jiangxi Foreign NGO Management Office and the Jiangxi Department of Civil Affairs met with a visiting representative of Chinese Agape Foundation (United States) in Nanchang. During the course of the meeting, the PSB offered suggestions related to difficulties the group has encountered during the process of registering an office in Jiangxi. (The China NGO Project notes that, according to Ministry of Public Security information, the Foundation has one representative office in Sichuan and is currently only allowed to work in that province.)
