The Great Canal of Nicaragua

Confidencial

Wang Jing’s Canal
Nicaragua turned over the franchise for the construction and management of the so-called Great Canal to HKND, with Wang Jing as president, director, and sole partner. The route proposed by the Chinese company starts in the western city of Brito on Nicaragua’s Pacific Coast, crosses the Great Lake, and terminates in the Caribbean. The U.S.$50 million proposed canal would be 171 miles long, 65 of which would be within Lake Cocibolca, 820 feet wide, 85 to 100 feet deep, and utilize 12 locks, as well as ports, airports, industrial and tourism complexes, roads, and free trade zones.
