The Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS) is a research and analysis institute, or think tank, established in 2013 and based in Berlin. It is an initiative of Stiftung Mercator, a major private European foundation. MERICS has grown into one of the largest international think tanks for policy-oriented research into and knowledge of contemporary China.
