Blind Chinese Activist Leaves Beijing for U.S.

China allowed a blind legal activist, Chen Guangcheng, to leave a hospital in Beijing on Saturday and board a plane bound for the United States, a move that could signal the end of a diplomatic standoff between the two countries. Chen's escape from house arrest in northeastern China last month and subsequent stay in the U.S. embassy caused huge embarrassment for China and led to a diplomatic rift while U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was visiting Beijing for talks to improve ties between the world's two biggest economies.

Blind Activist Departs for U.S.

Blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng left China for the U.S. on Saturday, bringing to an end an episode that strained relations between Washington and Beijing and put Chinese human-rights issues under an intense spotlight. Mr. Chen, his wife and their two children left Beijing on Saturday on board United Airlines flight 88 to Newark.

Hong Kong Movie Star Now a Motivational Speaker

Nicholas Tse—the famous young Hong Kong singer, actor, and musician—is known for portraying irresponsible young rebels. People think that's what he's like in real life. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invited Tse to be a speaker for the Asian Leadership Series on April 19, 2012. Tse is a young entrepreneur and the CEO of Post Production Office Limited, a fast-growing Hong Kong-based company specializing in video and film post-production. At the Asian Leadership Series, he gave a twenty-minute speech in English, followed by almost an hour of Q&A.

Drunken Brit Assaults Chinese Woman in Beijing

A drunken foreigner was caught sexually assaulting a Chinese woman in Beijing near the Xuanwumen subway station. Pedestrians stopped him and it ended in a fight. This video shows the initial confrontation with the foreigner and then jumps to the moment when the police arrived, by which point the foreigner was passed out in the street. The Beijing Public Security Bureau later posted an announcement saying that the foreigner is in custody and under investigation. He is a British citizen and holds a travel visa. The video spread quickly on Sina Weibo.

Europe Can Do Better

Since 2005, the European Union and China have sought to develop dialogue and cooperation in the area of climate-change policy. This has taken place primarily within the framework of the EU-China Partnership on Climate Change, agreed at the 2005 EU-China Summit. Within this framework, both sides have developed institutionalised dialogue as well as cooperation in specific areas. On paper, this cooperation looks impressive.
