Seeking Justice for China’s ‘Underage Prostitutes’

After a Government Crackdown on Rights Activists, Child Victims of Sex Crimes Have Fewer Advocates

Four and a half years ago in a small village on the outskirts of the coastal city of Yingkou in northern China, a woman stopped a 12-year-old girl outside the child’s school and lured her into a car. “If you don’t come with me, I will beat you every time I see you. You will not have any more good days in your life,” state media reported her saying. The woman and an accomplice allegedly used similar threats to bring seven other rural schoolgirls to a rented apartment.
