Matt DeButts is a Knight-Hennessy Scholar and Journalism M.A. student at Stanford University. He lived in Beijing from 2014 to 2019, where he worked as a special correspondent for The Los Angeles Times and a contributing editor to the Economist Intelligence Unit.
